What follows is an occasional web log reflecting on the earth-shattering 9/11 experience and subsequent temporal events. (For discourse on enduring truth, please visit What I've Learned So Far, Teachers of Truth, and Visions That Have Come to Me on this web site.)

Notes on War and Peace

September 11, 2001

The perception of horrendous attacks on New York City and Washington leaves us with renewed determination to remain in constant contact with the Answer, accepting only truthful thoughts. In response to our asking, the Holy Spirit informs us that:

"Creation is unchanged. The Son of God is safe."

Worldly events have changed neither creation nor the truth of our Identity as the Son of God, created in His image and likeness. We urge a national day of prayer to seek for deeper meaning for us all. (September 14th: A vision of unity came as we watched the national prayer service on television.)

Extended guidance is:

"The miracle does not require that external circumstances change, but it does offer a changed perception, and one which leads to truth. Your role is merely to allow Me to guide your sight and thoughts into alignment with changeless Reality. Fear not that needful tasks will remain undone, or that your deepest needs will remain unmet. Healing has already happened. Therefore, doubts of its efficacy are unwarranted and, with My help, may be released. Rest in the peace of creation. Rest in God. Amen."

We are grateful for Gangaji's statement:

"In the midst of this tragedy and the tragedies that occur all over the world, in the midst of grief and shock, there is the space to gather together in peace and love and silence."

October 5, 2001

Extended guidance today centered around the practice of healing every thought of pain or deprivation by offering it up to the Holy Spirit as a prayer in the form of an open question. For example, "How can the perceived deep conflict between Eastern and Western civilizations be resolved for the good of everyone?" (October 22nd: In worldly terms, an answer may perhaps be found in a comprehensive initiative for peace, as proposed here and here.)

November 11, 2001

The perceived ramifications of September 11th continue to expand. There are predictions of massive starvation in Afghanistan. But the Holy Spirit continues to remind us of the essential function of forgiveness of the world and acceptance of the Atonement for ourselves. We are so very grateful to all who are yielding to the Call.

December 10, 2001

The Christian Science Monitor published an interview with an Al Qaeda member. I am grateful that the Holy Spirit's interpretation allows me to find compassion and to see in him our deep, mutual longing. "Only appreciation is an appropriate response to your brother. Gratitude is due him for both his loving thoughts and his appeals for help, for both are capable of bringing love into your awareness if you perceive them truly." - ACIM

August 17, 2002

Here is an article from the Christian Science Monitor about reducing the barriers between Palestinian and Israeli teens -- about learning to choose peace, because there truly is no alternative. "The beautiful relationship you have with all your brothers is a part of you, because it is a part of God Himself." - ACIM

We are blessed to have this penetrating insight by Dr. Robert Muller, a true statesman and the former Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations.   Dr. Muller offers us a fresh, new way of seeing through the apparent turmoil of war and controversy, a way in which the promise of peace shines forth. We're also grateful for the inspired view of U.S. Representative Dennis Kucinich, whose vision is much bigger and infinitely more positive than the PNAC doctrine behind our radical and revolutionary rush to war with Iraq. Congressman Kucinich asks, "Can we move from wars to end all wars to peace to end all war?"

February 14, 2005

The movie Magnolia showed how a dramatic worldly event can stop people in their tracks and even bring them into a profound change of perspective where they can heal seemingly unsolvable problems. This has been the case for me with the tragedy of 9/11, the invasion of Iraq, the November election, and the recent tsunami disaster. These traumatic events cause me to increasingly embrace a revolutionary conclusion: The world is irreconcilably "off." This is indeed grounds for stopping. And in this stopping, I am seeing ever more clearly that the only way out lies in the direction of unity.

Each stopping, each entry into unknowing silence, has brought me greater understanding and, perhaps surprisingly, greater peace and joy. For the deeper understanding invariably revolves around the liberating fact that we're all in this together, and the path to real freedom from worldly woes lies before us all at this very moment. It is such a privilege to share this most engaging prospect, because it illuminates very best in us - it represents the very best of the human spirit. And it holds out the promise of the end of blind and self-destructive conflict.

I invite you to join me in this stopping and in the heart-felt acceptance of our true potential for mutual peace and joy. The following references are offered as recent expressions of the process and the payoff:

An article on conflict resolution, especially among political"enemies."

An article titled "My Turn" by Wayne Dyer.

The tape of an interview with Deepak Chopra, regarding his new book, "Peace is the Way."

(This is not to say that I have retired entirely from the work to reverse our country's current tendency to operate on the basis of ideology instead of common sense and true compassion. I'm still aware that a small band of radical ideologists has seized control of the Administration, and that they are implementing their plans for world military domination and for dismantling national social services without ever once telling us the truth of what they are doing. A recent statement by Senator Russ Feingold of Wisconsin gives a pretty good summary of our foreign policy, in which he notes that "America is so much better than this."

But, as I said above, it now seems to me that these problems can best be solved by a stopping and a reliance on shared inner wisdom. The time for conflict and stalemate has, for all practical purposes, ended. There is a better way.
