CONSERVATION STEWARD Seven Generations Land Trust is seeking a conservation steward for a remarkable 930-acre lakefront and wilderness property in Baker County, NE Oregon. A 99-year lease is available for around $495K, about half of the unrestricted market value, to the right environmentally-oriented party. The price is negotiable for ideal stewards; financing may also be a possibility. Conservation restrictions and a land stewardship plan are currently in place. The requirements involve protection and restoration of the slopes and riparian zone, including control of noxious weeds and care of the orchard, ponds and irrigation rights. See website for more details. The land comprises most of the lower Fox Creek watershed, 45 miles up-river from Hells Canyon in the Snake River Breaks, on the Oregon side of Brownlee Reservoir. It is one half hour north of Huntington, 2 hours from Boise, 5 hours from Portland, and about an hour and a quarter (60 miles) from Baker City. The parcel includes 3½ miles of pristine spring-fed creek, several ponds, and ½ mile of frontage on Brownlee Reservoir, known for its fishing. The lakeside area has an old farmhouse and a double-wide mobile home (both needing work), an historic old post office shop and other outbuildings, orchards and gardens. The price includes many tools and supplies, a Toyota pick-up, and a well equipped Kubota tractor. The upper canyon area continues for miles along the creek up the canyon. It is especially quiet and beautiful, and abounds with wildlife, including, elk, deer, cougar, reptiles, and many butterflies, flowering plants, and birds, including chukar and bald eagles. This upper portion is surrounded on all three sides by thousands of acres of public (BLM) land. From the photos on the website, or, better yet, an on-site visit, you can see that the land is varied and has many possibilities--for a second or retirement home, for hunting and fishing, various kinds of community, or for campground income, to name a few.
