In-Jail Drug Counselor
|
|
Service to Those in Jail The practice of forgiveness continues day and night. It has been enhanced and reinforced by my work in the world for the Northern California Service League. In 1990, in response to my asking, the Holy Spirit unexpectedly directed me to "work in jails." Until September, 2000, I volunteered and worked in the San Francisco Jail, as a drug counselor performing individual and group counseling. Effectiveness in my work depended on my willingness to surrender judgment, doubt, and expectation of results. "Shoulds" did not serve me well. Instead, through forgiveness, inner wisdom has revealed my true nature and the true nature of the inmates, deputies, and fellow staff. We became free of limiting self concepts from the past. We have healed. We have experienced freedom here and now. It has been most gratifying and rewarding to see, hear, and feel this positive response. We are all teachers to each other. The jail is a temple of healing for us and for the universe. September 8, 2000, marked the last day of my direct service in the jail, as Donna and I embarked on a new career in a distant land. The love and respect of all those with whom I have worked abides in me and will not be lost in any way. In fact, it is expanding as I type these words to encompass the entire world. We are blessed without measure to be led so gently on this path to a Home we never left. Site Index |
